Cement Sand Mortar Calculator

Cement Sand Mortar Calculator

When planning brick masonry, wall construction, plaster work, boundary wall projects, room walls, commercial buildings, or contractor bulk jobs, one of the most important calculations is how much cement and sand mortar is required. Our Cement Sand Mortar Calculator helps estimate the quantity of cement bags and sand needed for different construction works.

Mortar is the binding material that joins bricks and blocks together. Without correct mortar mix, even quality bricks may not perform properly. Proper calculation helps avoid shortages, wastage, and unnecessary cost.

This calculator is useful for:

  • Brick wall construction
  • Room walls
  • Boundary walls
  • Plaster work
  • Repair masonry work
  • House construction
  • Contractor BOQ planning

What is Cement Sand Mortar?

Mortar is a mixture of:

  • Cement
  • Sand
  • Water

Used for:

  • Brick jointing
  • Block laying
  • Wall plaster
  • Tile base work
  • Patch repairs
  • Masonry leveling

The strength of mortar depends on ratio used.

Common ratios:

  • 1:4
  • 1:5
  • 1:6
  • 1:8

Where:

1:6=1 Part Cement+6 Parts Sand1:6 = 1\ Part\ Cement + 6\ Parts\ Sand

Why Use Cement Sand Mortar Calculator?

Without proper calculation, sites often face:

  • Cement shortage
  • Excess sand lying unused
  • Work delays
  • Higher labour waiting cost
  • Weak mortar due to guess mixing
  • Budget problems

Using a calculator helps with:

  • Accurate material planning
  • Better site control
  • Lower wastage
  • Faster execution
  • Better quality consistency

Mortar Calculation Formula

First calculate wet mortar volume:

Wet Volume=Length×Width×ThicknessWet\ Volume = Length \times Width \times Thickness

Convert to dry volume:

Dry Volume=Wet Volume×1.33Dry\ Volume = Wet\ Volume \times 1.33

Then divide according to ratio.

Example for 1:6:

Total Parts=1+6=7Total\ Parts = 1+6=7

Example 1 – 1 Cubic Meter Mortar (1:6 Ratio)

Dry volume:

1×1.33=1.33 m31 \times 1.33 = 1.33\ m^3

Cement:

17×1.33=0.19 m3\frac{1}{7} \times 1.33 = 0.19\ m^3

Sand:

67×1.33=1.14 m3\frac{6}{7} \times 1.33 = 1.14\ m^3

Approx cement bags:

Around 5.5 bags

Example 2 – Brick Wall Masonry Mortar

If wall needs 2 m³ mortar in ratio 1:6:

Cement bags:

5.5×2=11 bags5.5 \times 2 = 11\ bags

Sand:

Approx 2.28 m³

Example 3 – Small Plaster Work

If required mortar = 0.5 m³ in ratio 1:4:

Total parts:

1+4=51+4=5

More cement needed than 1:6 ratio because richer mix is stronger.

Common Mortar Ratios and Uses

RatioUse
1:4Strong plaster / wet areas
1:5Good masonry work
1:6Standard brick masonry
1:8Light non-critical work

Cement Bags Approximation

1 cement bag volume is approx:

1 bag0.035 m31\ bag \approx 0.035\ m^3

So bag quantity can be estimated from cement volume.

Sand Quantity in CFT

If you buy sand in cubic feet:

1 m3=35.31 cft1\ m^3 = 35.31\ cft

This helps compare supplier pricing.

Where This Calculator is Useful

Mortar for 1000 Bricks (Approx)

For standard brick masonry, 1000 bricks may need mortar depending on joint thickness and wall type.

Approx planning:

  • Cement: 3 to 5 bags
  • Sand: site dependent
  • Ratio based variation possible
